What’s the Nerdiest Thing About You? BLOG HOP!

This is the first time in my life where I think, I might not be nerdy enough. Did you see how many Happy Potter action figures Cassie Mae has purchases. I will give it a try and you should to.
Congratulations to Cassie Mae on the release of her YA Romance novel, How to Date a Nerd. I don’t usually read YA, but I am looking forward to reading this book.  I love Cassie’s NA stuff and the premise of this book sounds really cool nerdy fun.

Blog hopNow the rules, very nerdy, I know:

What is the nerdiest thing about me?

I am a Dallas Cowboys Fan. I have been all my life. I was particularly nerdy about them during the 1997-1998 season.  It was two year after the last of their three Super Bowl wins.  I went to a total of 12 games that season. All home games and 4 away games (New York, DC, Green Bay & Philadelphia).

Every star on team had a radio or television show in the Dallas market and you could find me in the audience of one or more every week.

I collected every newspaper from the day after each game of that season and kept them in plastic bags.

I have a series of three photos of Troy Aikman during that time:

  1. The first one is of him waving at me as I took the photo at a radio show.
  2. The second one is of him at a game looking in my general direction looking for me in the stands.
  3. The third I actually made it in the photo at the opening of a grocery store.

I collected cups, key chains, posters, magazine articles and I have an unusual amount of beer coasters with random Cowboy player autographs on them. I have them all in a trunk in my parents attic marked Cowboy Stuff, Do NOT Throw Away!!!!

And, if that wasn’t nerdy enough, I wrote an entire 30,000 word (approx. I hand wrote it in my journal) manuscript–dialogue only–of an embarrassingly passionate romance between Troy Aikman and some girl named Sydney (It’s not me, I swear. ;-)).

Here’s a short excerpt:

“Do you love football more than me?”
“No. Do you love being a lawyer more then you love me.”
“No, but being a lawyer isn’t my passion, football is yours.”
“I have room for more than one passion in my life.”
“Oh, Troy.”
“I love you, Syd.”
“I love you, too.”

*OMG, someone please tell me I’ve gotten better at this.

This face still does it for me.
This face still does it for me.

So, there you have it. Am I a nerd or what? It’s your turn, what is the nerdiest thing about you?

Journey to Publication – Halo of the Nephilim Blog Tour

The journey from idea to publication is never a straight line.  Author Dina Rae can certainly relate. Help me in congratulating her on the release of her new book Halo of the Nephilim and read about her publication tale.

halobanner1My experience in the writing process has been a roller coaster ride.  My first novel, The Last Degree, was picked up by an unscrupulous publisher last year.  There were so many problems-editing, posting it on distribution sites, formatting, etc.  I could go on forever.  It was the absence of royalty checks that prompted me to exterminate the contract.  I put the book up on Amazon as a self-pub Kindle Select deal.  I have no complaints with Amazon.  My second novel, Halo of the Damned, and the sequel, Halo of the Nephilim, are traditionally published.  To be honest, the experience is really a disappointment.  I don’t want to be negative because the publisher does pretty much what most small/medium publishers do-very little in terms of advertising and promotion.  What can I say-I’m a rookie who is learning.  I have not been in this business long enough to give anyone advice, but I will say this: Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

Author Bio:

Dina Rae is a new author that is here to stay. As a former teacher, she brings an academic element to her work. Her research on the Yezidi religion and love of art inspired her story telling for Halo of the Damned.
Her second novel, The Last Degree, is a fictionalized account of the Freemason’s role in the New World Order. Dina’s grandfather was the Most Worshipful of his lodge. The subject has always held a personal interest.

Her latest novel, Bad Juju, is about an old Haitian bokor who mentors two teens in the dark arts. A unique blend of horror, romance, and literary fiction meant for adults and mature teens.
Dina lives with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs outside of Chicago. She is an avid reader, tennis player, movie buff, and self-proclaimed expert on conspiracy theories. She has appeared in several literary blogs, newspapers, e-zines, and radio shows as a guest

Can a fallen angel, his band of broken souls, and nephilim children change the world?

Armaros the Cursed, Satan’s favorite of the Fallen, falls once again after breaking the rules.  Fearing an eternity of punishment, he desperately attempts to save himself by sending a bird to his island.  The SOS message is received by his beloved congregation.  Can these loyal worshipers rescue him from the pit?

Halo of the Nephilim is the sequel to Halo of the Damned.  The story begins with Armaros’ arrest. Declared dead, his only known surviving daughter, Joanna Easterhouse, proves her relation and inherits everything.  She catapults her career from an entry-level advertising assistant to the head of Armaros’ advertising empire.  She should be on top of the world, but knows everything good must come to an end.

Joanna’s sister, Kim Easterhouse, marries Sean Slattery.  Joanna generously includes them as key players in her advertising chain.  They, too, have much to smile about, but a string of events leads them back to old family secrets.

Wickedness looms over the Easterhouse family once more, forcing them into an unlikely showdown filled with page-turning excitement.  Like Halo of the Damned, Halo of the Nephilim is filled with conspiracy and angel lore taken directly from scripture and other ancient writings.  More mind control themes top off this tale of doom.  Dina Rae delivers the darkness in the most entertaining light.

Special Edition – Tattoo Thursday and Release Day for The Faerie Prince

2940044526976_p0_v1_s260x420

It’s release day for The Faerie Prince, the second novel in the Creepy Hollow series! Woohoo! If you’re keen to read it, you can find it at the following places online:

As a special treat, I want to welcome the author of The Faerie Prince, Rachel Morgan to a special edition of Tattoo Tuesday Thursday.  Congrats on your new release.  Here are your five questions:

1.     How old were you when you got your first tattoo?
20
2.     What made you want to get your first tattoo?
I wanted something on my body that symbolized my faith.
3.     How many tattoos do you have? If only one, do you want more?
Only one. I’ve thought about getting others since then, but I don’t want them badly enough to actually go out and get them done!
4.     What is your tattoo story?  Tell me the most recent or your favorite.
The tattoo on my ankle is the outline of a fish, or ichthys in Greek. The actual Greek word has five letters. These five letters are the same as the first letters of the words Jesus Christ God’s Son Saviour. I think it’s pretty cool that one little symbol can have so much meaning 🙂

5.     Tattoos on a significant other, like or dislike?  Why?
I’ve never considered that before… My significant other doesn’t have any, and I’m happy with him that way 🙂

Guardian trainee Violet
Fairdale is just weeks away from one of the most important occasions of
her life: graduation. After messing up big time by bringing a human
into the fae realm, Vi needs to step up her game and forget about Nate
if she hopes to graduate as the top guardian of her year. Everything
would be fine if she wasn’t forced to partner with Ryn, her ex-friend,
ex-enemy, current ‘sort of friend’. They might be trying to patch up
their relationship, but does she really want to spend a week undercover
with him for their final assignment? On top of that, the possibly insane
Unseelie Prince is still on the loose, free to ‘collect’ as many
specially talented faeries as he can find—and Vi is still at the top of
his list. Add in faerie queens, enchanted storms, complicated
not-just-friends feelings, and a murder within the Guild itself, and
graduation is about to become the least of Vi’s problems.

In celebration, The Faerie Guardian is on sale for a limited time!
**GIVEAWAY**

There will be a giveaway running from now until the end of the blog tour (Sun 9 June). A giveaway where FOUR people could win something! The prizes are a signed copy of The Faerie Prince (or The Faerie Guardian, should the winner prefer that), an Amazon gift card, a mini book pendant and necklace, and a Creepy Hollow pin badge. Inhaling in life is easy. It’s the exhaling—the letting go— that’s the hard part.
