Blurb:  Trauma, isolation, courage, love. . .  Anxious Love

Hopeful about his future after overcoming loss, Ryan Ware is living his dream life as a first round draft pick. He’s enjoying every crazy minute of fame, fortune, and gorgeous women.

Despite being the most sought-after writer in romance, severe anxiety keeps Leah Jones isolated. Having a regimented life keeps the triggers at bay that could put her back in the hospital, perhaps permanently.

A chance meeting in New Orleans, Leah’s brown eyes capture Ryan’s heart, and he vows to learn more about this reclusive beauty.

Can Leah’s anxieties withstand Ryan’s crazy life? Can Ryan learn enough about real love to be the right man for Leah?

Anxious Love contains explicit scenes of a sexual nature and is not suitable for readers under 18 years of age.

Excerpt:  Because of my anxiety, I perceived the world differently. The medicine helped, but when it wore off, it wasn’t like Cinderella’s carriage turning back into a pumpkin at precisely midnight.

It was more subtle, more gradual. It was a whole different way of reacting to the world, and it took a little more concentration. Something I couldn’t do with him studying me.

But then he rubbed his hand up my arm and he licked his lips and leaned into me and the world slowed down.

“Hey, you okay?”

I concentrated on his voice but couldn’t stop staring at his lips. I tried to pull my gaze away from them, from him, but I couldn’t. His facial expressions made me feel adored, and I didn’t want to miss a thing.

I leaned in further to get a better look, but my eyes closed and the next thing I knew, his lips touched mine. I pulled back a little and opened my eyes. The world caught up to whatever dimension we were in. It was much too abrupt for the moment, and I felt on the verge of a panic attack, but then I thought, maybe …

I closed my eyes, leaned in, and kissed him again. My lips parted and I licked them, but my tongue rubbed against his lips and retreated. We were so close. His lips shifted into a grin, and I parted my lips in surprise. He reached his hand behind my neck and pulled me closer as his tongue entered between mine.

A muffled giggled escaped, and I was surprised to find it came from me. It disappeared into his mouth, which made him grin and pull back. The world stayed calm as I thought about how his lips felt on mine. His tongue swiped against my tongue with confidence. I opened my eyes and peered into his. They were no longer light; they had a definite dark hue and the color swarmed as if wondering how to take in the person they saw before them.

Is it possible that I found something else to balance me?

I leaned back, but as his hand slipped away from my cheek, I placed my hand on it to keep him firmly in place. I looked off to my right and the streetcar clinked by and people were strolling down St. Charles Avenue. I turned to my left and watched a group of kids cut across the park on their way home from school.

I turned back to Ryan and smiled. He smiled back, and to thank him, I kissed him.

I removed my hand from his, satisfied it would stay where I wanted it. My hand reached out to touch his chest. I wanted to confirm it was as solid as I imagined. My brief hug a few nights before had only hinted at it.

I touched his skin peeking out the top of his t-shirt and ran my knuckle across the top. It was his turn to shiver, but it deepened the kiss as his tongue pressed into my mouth. I flatted my head on his chest and pressed back; he was solid, unmovable. He laid a soft little kiss on my mouth before pulling back and looking down at my hand splayed across his chest.

His face tilted and he stared with a sexy grin.

“Did you just kiss me?” he asked in a whispered tone.

Excerpt:

Hayden waved at Lyssa, who’d made it to O’Hare International Airport a full ten minutes earlier than she’d planned. Her partner stood in front of the check-in kiosks with his overnight bag at his feet and his boarding pass in the hand he’d just flagged her down with.

“You didn’t have to wait for me,” she said.

“I know, but this way I’d know sooner if you were late and would be able to call to give you a nudge.”

“How did you know I wasn’t already at the gate?”

He shrugged his non-committal answer. “Did you already print your pass?”

“Yep.”

They walked over to the line for security, and she updated him on the slight changes to their itinerary as they wove their way through the tethered maze. They were flying to New York to interview two contenders to replace Blaze Capital Management in DH’s investment program and then would catch a quick flight to Boston for a meeting the following morning with Bell Funds, the third candidate.

After making their way through the scanner with no incident, they waited for their things to be ferried through their own scan. Lyssa snatched her zip-locked toiletries, purse, and shoes as soon as the conveyor belt brought the tray to her, but her carry-on bag reversed back into the machine just as quickly as it appeared. The security officer studied the screen. “Gonna have to search it,” he murmured, and then started the conveyor belt again, lifting her bag when it emerged and taking it to a side table.

Lyssa fumbled to get her ankle-high boots on and hobbled over to the table mid zip so she could keep an eye on what was happening with her bag. By the time she straightened to stand all the way up, Hayden was right behind her with his shiny black shoes tied and his jacket neatly draped over his arm.

“You can head for the gate if you want,” Lyssa said. “Oh, and coffee’s on me this time, if you don’t mind getting it.” She reached into her purse for her wallet.

“You can buy, but I’ll wait.”

When Lyssa turned toward him, she saw his eyes fixed on the contents of her bag while the airport guy pawed through it. She could only imagine what her partner thought he was learning about her now. Returning her focus to the bag, she squelched a gasp when the guy pulled her makeup bag up from the bottom, unzipping it. His gloved fingertip pushed aside eyeliners and lipsticks to reveal a baggie containing a four-inch-long, white tube. It had a clear, spiky rubber cap on the end, which Lyssa hoped wasn’t obvious through the wrinkled plastic encasing it. The on/off switch along the side would be pretty hard to miss, though.

The man closed the makeup case and returned it to the bottom of her luggage. “You’re good to go,” he said as he zipped up her bag and pushed it toward her.

She refused to look at Hayden even while she told herself he was an adult and a Pocket Rocket in a woman’s overnight bag was no big deal. They’d just walk down the hall to the gate, return to business talk, and that would be it. And then, about halfway down the hall, the silence got to her. Glancing toward him, she blurted, “It’s a flashlight. In case of emergency.”

Synopsis:

Lyssa Bates doesn’t need a man. Not when the world is fully-stocked with double A batteries and a wide array of options in Amazon’s health and sexual wellness category. After yet another failed relationship, the twenty-six-year-old investment analyst is convinced that real guys aren’t ever going to live up to her expectations—so why should she bother with them? She’s determined to keep her dating life purely electronic…though she occasionally fantasizes about Hayden King, the delicious new associate she just got partnered with at work.

While Lyssa manages her romantic risks by deleting men from of the equation, the ever-charming Hayden protects his heart by diversifying his love life across multiple women. As the two young professionals travel together around the country for business, their flirty working relationship develops into a close friendship that hurtles toward something more. Between hot tub confessions in Baltimore, an accidental kiss in Dallas, and an all-nighter in Chicago, Hayden proves himself to be better than any fantasy.

O’Connell’s Tattoo Story:

As any reader will probably guess from the book, I LOVE tattoos. When they are meaningful I think that they can be a really beautiful form of art. That having been said, I don’t have any tattoos. Not a single one. Why? Not because I’m afraid of needles, but because I’m incredibly fickle. What I like one month, I know I’d regret another month. My husband doesn’t have any of these issues. Like O’Connell, he knows what he wants, makes up his mind and goes for it. He recently finished his full sleeve tattoo which goes from his wrist, up and over his shoulder. I watched him for months consider what he’d have, design it out, and then sit for hours in the chair while they painstakingly created this beautiful sleeve.
A sleeve tattoo requires a huge commitment. It’s so prominent and visible, that you need to truly love the design to live with it forever. O’Connell’s sleeve is a celtic design. Being Irish is a really important part of who he is and I think he’s proud to show that part of himself, to literally wear his nationality on his sleeve. When Em first sees it, she doesn’t see the ink as adding an element of intimidation to his demeanour. She sees the beauty in the artwork.
His other tattoo is so much more personal. In the early stages of their friendship, O’Connell reaches a low point. He is struggling not to get dragged down by his past dealings with an alcoholic mother, and his lack of tangible prospects to offer Em. At this point Em grabs a pen and writes a quote across O’Connell’s pectorals.

“A champion is someone who gets up when they can’t-
-Jack Dempsey”

She tells him that anyone can be a champion if they can get back up and keep fighting when they’ve hit rock bottom. It’s kind of a revelation to O’Connell that the only way is up. She has given him the hope and drive to lift himself up and try to make something of himself. It’s only fitting then that he captures the memory the only way he knows how, by having the words tattooed exactly where she wrote them.

O’Connell suggests when something meaningful happens that he feels a tattoo coming on. It seems he likes the idea of using his body as a human scrapbook and preserving, by tattoo, the very best of his memories. It’s a pretty good bet then that they’ll be more tattoos to come by the end of the sequel!

Synopsis:

Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him. Just being around her makes him want to be a better person.
They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

Excerpt
Excerpt 1:
As soon as we crossed into the tent, the burn of strong incense made my eyes water. Madame Miranda was sitting at a small table complete with Tarot cards and a crystal ball. She was old and craggy, and when she spoke, her coarse voice made a chill run up my spine.
“I’ve been expecting you boys. I have something to tell you.”
Since it was Myles’ idea to enter the tent, we made him go first. My brain was too foggy from cheap beer to process what she was saying to him, but he went as white as a ghost and shot out of his chair.
“Marcus, come sit down and give me your hand,” she said, and my heart picked up. How does she know my name? “Do as you are told, beast!”

Shit. She knows my nickname too, I thought.
I sat across from her, and she grasped my hand in hers, running her dry, bony fingers along my palm.

“Yes, Marcus, you are quite a beast. But you will find your soul mate in due time. Roses will lead you to her.” She looked up at me and as her eyes bored into mine she gripped my hand tighter. “But be careful, beast. If you keep secrets from your belle rose, your love will fall like petals in winter and you will risk losing her forever.”
Excerpt 2:
He surprised me when he finally said, “Would you like another shot?” The way he said the words made my alcohol-swimming brain believe that he might have meant something else.
“I’d love for you to give me a Tequila-O.” My eyes went wide when I realized what I had said. “I mean, I’d love another shot.”
Seeing that the bartender was on the other end of the bar, Marcus reached across the bar and snagged a bottle of Jose, pouring me a perfect shot. He slid it across to me and I slammed the shot back, keeping my eyes closed while Jose did his work, burning a line down my center.

The sound of Marcus’s deep voice brought me back to reality “Tessa tells me that you designed the themes for the different rooms here. Do you have a favorite?”

I felt heat rush into my cheeks from more than just the Tequila-O, and I sent a silent prayer that the flashing lights of the club had covered it up for me. “Lust is my favorite.”

Marcus slowly moved closer to me. With one hand resting on my bare thigh just above my knee and the other behind my neck, he pulled me toward him as he bent down and whispered in my ear, “Lust is my favorite too.” Then he released me and walked away, leaving my skin cold and empty where his hands had been.
