My Monthly Update – Crazy Busy Month Ahead

Latest News

It is going to be a busy month. Here I what I am getting into this month:

The NCAA Final Four is at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. It is on my mother’s bucket list, so we are going.

Nascar is at Texas Motor Speedway and I’ve never been. Given how great Dale, Jr. is doing this season, I have to go.

My Cover Reveal for Another New Life is schedule for April 10th. You want to participate, please sign up here.

Oh, yeah, and there is a little thing called the A to Z Blogging Challenge. 26 posts in 30 days. Click on the badge to the left if you haven’t signed up, yet.

Movies Coming out in April

Captain America 2 – already rented the first movie and will watch it and the Avengers again the night before opening day.

Rio 2 – I loved the first one and Bruno Mars is in this one.

Draft Day – So excited for this one. Love any movie that shows behind the scenes of professional sports.

Transcendence – It’s Johnny Depp. Enough said.

Goals for April

Finish proofreaders notes on Another New Life

Finalize cover for Another New Life

Continue prep for the May release

Edit About You & Me (Book #1) – Prepare to pitch during RT Conference in May and RWA in July.

Awards

I received an award in March and although I don’t follow the award rules, I have to acknowledge the amazing blogger and one of my beta readers for recognizing me.

Thanks so much Tianna for the Being a Light in the World Award. The award was created to celebrate those wonderful people in our world who spread light, love, hope and peace in the name of humanity. – What a beautiful thought.

What’s on your April to do list? What movies are you looking forward to seeing in April? What are your writing goals for April?

Sydney Edits

I wanted to give you all a heads up on what I’ve been up to for the last few months. I seem to be keeping up with a one post per week type schedule. Not on purpose, but it’s worked out that way for July.  I don’t see it changing much until mid August.

I promise, I’m not sitting by the pool sipping margarita.

Even though it is National Tequila Day, here is what I’ve been up to.

EDITS     EDITS     EDITS . . .

IMG_0439This is a portion of the 52 items on my to edit list for my latest WIP. I’ve been trying hard to find a painless process that doesn’t suck to holly hell fun way to edit. I figured, I’m a list kind of girl, so why not stick with what I know and make a list. I’ve put a deadline on myself to finish these 52 items of edits in two weeks.

Wish me luck and I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Happy Tequila Day!

Anyone use the list method of editing?  Anyone use the tequila shot method of editing? Finish an item on the list and take a shot.

Still trying to figure out a theme, read this.

Third Week Of Edits

In order to stay up to date on my edits, I have a number of accountabilities (that’s a word) in place.

  1. the writers dojo – As a part of NiNoReMo group, I have set a goal to edit 12 chapters in the month of March.  Ali cross and the rest of the group are super supportive and I don’t want to let them down.
  2. Beta readers – I am sending chapters to my beta readers as soon as I finish editing them and it’s a good sign when my beta’s are calling me to send more chapters. They are breathless with anticipation (anyone know where that quote comes from?).  And, one of my beta’s said, I can’t wait to see if the main characters get together, but she picked the wrong two main characters, so she is going to be in for a surprise. That’s what I hope every reading my book when they read it. I suck them in and then turn the tables on it.  hahahahaha(evil laugh).
  3. DFW Writer’s Conference – I want my beta’s to finish reading so I can have all edits done and ready to go for the conference in May.  All those agents out there are just waiting to read my manuscript. 😉

Do you work better when you’re held accountable or are you one of those internally motivated people (hate envy proud of those people)?

Post to Ponder – Edit Edition

Chapter Edits – A Quick Overview by Raewyn Hewitt – If you’re new to editing and not sure where to start, follow these steps. It will get you far.
Four Situations When We Should Tell Rather than Show by Marcy Kennedy – I know this sounds blasphemous, but read it. It makes so much sense.
Close Edits: What I Look Out For by Tara Tyler – Great list of edits to look for.

My Favorite Blog of the Week

Rejection Love Letters – John Tompkins is a writer who has turn rejection into triumph. Ok, maybe not triumph, but he certainly has the right attitude.  I have been LOL’ing over his sight all week.  He turns his rejection letters into love letter.

My Weekly Update – September is Almost Here

September means a break for the hot temperatures in China.  Even though the weather is perfect to be outside exploring Shanghai, I have a busy month in front of the computer as well.  Here are a few items that are on my to do list for September:

  1. Finish the first draft on my second novel.  Campnano will only get me about two-thirds done.  I will have another 25,000 – 30,000 words to go before it is completed.  Happy dance will have to wait a few more weeks.
  2. Start edits on, I’m Coming Home, my first novel.  Can anyone recommend a good book on editing?  I am a ‘step by step’ kind of person, so I am looking for something that gives good instructions to follow on the editing process.
  3. Edit my short story for the Burrst Writing Contest.  The only prompt given was ‘Blue’.
  4. Pick one out of the three ideas I have for Nanowrimo.  I want to start outlining in October.
  5. Find more Tattoo Tuesday stories.  If I have to crawl over mountains and wade through lakes, I will find them.  Highest views of the week for me for those looking for exposure (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
  6. Participate in a few Blogfest.  Click on the badges for more information and to join me.

Blog Love
I love this poem by The Invitation By Oriah Mountain Dreamer posted on Glitter, Bliss and Perfect Chaso.  It is what my MC is looking for. To be honest, so am I.

Paul Dorset did a guest post at Karen’s Different Corner that was brilliant.  What do Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll have to do with being an Indie Author.  You can’t go wrong with a title like that and I assure you the post doesn’t disappoint.
