NaNoWriMo
I won with 50,000 words on November 24th, 2013, but what I am most proud of, I finish the first draft of my novel in 30 days +1. 70,140 words in 31 days and the story shifted a bit from my outline, but it’s pretty cool and I am looking forward to letting it rest for a few months and getting back to it sometime next year.
If you want to read about my NaNo writing journey, check out my journal under the Sydney Writes tab or by clicking the winner badge to the left.
A special thank you to the Texas Rough Writers for their support and encouragement. This was the first WriMo where I was able to meet other writers face to face.
Another special shout out to the 2013 NaNoWriMo Support Group on Facebook. Great group of writers and there was always someone around to sprint with.
Now it’s time to get back to an old project.
Goals for December
- Implement beta readers suggestions into Another New Life.
- Decide what project to work on during Editpalooza. I am leaning towards Inked (Camp Nano 2012) or I’m Coming Home (JuNoWriMo 2012).
- Create an outline for second book to my NaNoWriMo 2013 novel while the characters are still fresh in my mind.

Pitch Wars hosted by Brenda Drake – submissions are due on Monday, December 2, 2013. I won’t be participating, but it’s a great opportunity to get your pitch read by some great agents and editors. Good luck!
Anyone every participated in Editpalooza? What bloghops are you participating in this month? Are you submitting for Pitch Wars?
Well, color me impressed! I nearly hit 60k, but the novel is not complete. I let myself get a little off track with family and turkey, but I’m looking forward to hitting it again on Monday and keeping the momentum!
Hadn’t heard of Editpalooza or Pitchwars. Editing is what I automatically shift back to once I finish this draft (though like you I’ll let the NaNovel steep for a while while I turn back to the other projects).
I’m pretty happy with it. It’s important to keep going so good for you getting back to it on Monday.
I only recently heard about editpalooza. It’s a month long editing workshop conducted by Savvy Writers. I need help with editing and I’ve heard great things about it.
You beat NaNo AND finished the story – that’s awesome! (And nice to know someone else writes short novels.)
Your schedule looks great next month.
Thanks Alex. Yeah, I’m not the 110,000 word epic novel kind of writer. Haha.
Congrats on winning NaNo!
Seems you have a lot going on this month. Enjoy!
I know. I am excited to get back to some blogging this month.
Holy crap, 70,000 words! I’m so, so impressed. It’s a huge accomplishment to finish a first draft. Go buy yourself a brownie or something! I haven’t even tallied my words up yet. I’m not sure if I will. I kind of like the unknown 😉
Skittles for me. I am one of those rare people who don’t like plain chocolate and recently, I can’t eat peanuts or I would take anything with chocolate & peanut butter.
