Hadley and Lily’s Top ‘Summer to Remember’ Must Haves

Hadley: Hey everyone. My best friend, Lily, and me are going to tell you our top must haves for this summer.

Lily: This girl is headed to college in the Fall and it’s our last summer together before “growing up”. I’ll start! My number one is boys.

Hadley: (eye roll)

Lily: What? Boys are important for a summer to remember. And now that we’re both single we can have a little fun with them.

Hadley: Are you done?

Lily: Fine. What’s your number one?

Hadley: (grins) My best friend.

Lily: Oh! And a job working with your best friend.

Hadley: Yes that too.

Lily: (pauses dramatically) And on a serious note…sunscreen.

Hadley: UV protection is important.

Lily: I was thinking more along the lines of awful tan lines.

Hadley: Okay…

Lily: Next is…parties. And oh! Older brothers who can get supplies for parties, if you know what I mean.

Hadley: Oh my God…

Lily: So we have boys, best friends, a job WITH a best friend, sunscreen, parties, brothers, what else?

Hadley: Camp!

Lily: That counts as a job with your best friend.

Hadley: Camp should be a category of its own—

Lily: Here we go…

Hadley: But without camp we wouldn’t have had the best summers of our lives. And we will be a part of making that happen for the kids.

Lily: Yeah. I’m still sticking with boys.

Hadley: You’re hopeless, but I do love you! Well that does it, everyone. Be sure to make this summer, a summer to remember. And comment below with your must haves I’d love to hear them!

About This Summer

Publisher: Carina UK

Genre: New Adult Contemporary

ISBN: 9781472096449

Description…

Before college, before responsibilities, Hadley Beauman and best friend Lily are determined to have a summer to remember. There will be all the usual dramas – ex-boyfriends who don’t seem to know what ‘ex’ means, pesky younger brothers with unrequited crushes, but what Hadley didn’t anticipate was the out-of-the-blue return of the seriously hot boy-next-door, Will Carson. The boy who broke her heart when he skipped town two years ago.

Will may have shot up a foot and filled out (oh yes), but inside he carries the weight of guilt – for leaving, for coming back… Now he’s just passing through to tie up loose ends but it’s clear the old chemistry still crackles between him and Hadley. Trouble is, it’s built on two years of lies…

This summer might just be the best time of their lives, but is Hadley ready for everything to change – again?

U – Undeniable Attraction

UTaking a break from the blog for the day and turning the letter U over to Paige Rion.  Her novel, Written on her Heart was released yesterday and she here to talk to you about Undeniable Attraction. Welcome Paige.

First, I want to thank Sydney for having me on her blog. We decided to each share a post for the A to Z challenge. I hope I do her blog justice.

One of the main ingredients of a successful romance novel is undeniable attraction. In most romance novels, it’s usually pretty apparent from the start that a rare chemistry exists between the main character and their love interest. Whether it’s love at first site or a love hate relationship at first sight, the characters are undeniably attracted to each other. But this attraction doesn’t come free. In a good book, there’s some form of complication or conflict that is keeping them apart. And that’s what makes the story interesting.

In my new release, Written On Her Heart, there’s plenty of attraction between the main character Andi Callaway and Ford Delaney. Ford is a world famous novelist, he’s sexy, brooding, and he’s her literary idol. When she happens to snag a job as his assistant, it creates room for a lot of sparks. But her long-time boyfriend and her “life-plan” get in the way, causing her to deny her budding feelings for the hunky author. For fun, I’d like to share a snippet of the book with you. This is the first scene in which their attraction for each other becomes apparent.

“Can I trust you?” he asked.

“Of course.” She reached a hand out, placing it on his arm, despite the voice in her head screaming at her to stay put. Her skin burned where it touched his and she sensed something dangerous between them. Kinetic. Electric. Like the first rumble of thunder before a storm.

“My situation—the way I feel—it’s ironic. Don’t you think?” he said. “The one thing that always centered me, the one thing that helped me to find myself, to cope—my writing—has somehow made me come undone again. I need to remember why I write. I need to remember why I love it so much. That’s part of the reason I came here. Yes, to hide out and let the press calm down, but I also came here to find a way to write again. To find the joy. You—your enthusiasm, your determination—helps to remind me.”

Her? Andi’s heart thudded in her chest.

He reached out, placing his hand on the side of her face, and before she could stop herself, she leaned into him, covering his hand with 3dWOHHher own. She met his eyes and her breathing hitched. Pins pricked her spine and her pulse pounded in her ears. He leaned in and ducked his head, his mouth only inches from hers. The warmth of his sweet breath moved over her lips, and for a moment, she closed her eyes, not thinking, only feeling. But in the second before their lips met, she blinked, the fog in her head clearing, and she pressed a palm to his chest.

“I’m sorry. I have a boyfriend.” She breathed.

Ford pulled away, his eyes beacons of light in the darkness. “Of course you do.” He straightened and took a step back, as if Andi was something dangerous, something he had to get away from. Running a hand through his hair, he muttered something she couldn’t decipher under his breath.

He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, then said, “Be at my place Monday, nine a.m., ready to work. I’ll find a way home.” Then, he turned on his heel and left her sitting alone in the darkness.

Pop Travel by Tara Tyler Blogtour – Research

Sydney is awesome – she graciously volunteered to host me for my extra long Pop Travel Blog Tour! Can’t believe it’s already into month six!! And congrats, Sydney, on winning the Nano challenge! Bravo!

Today, I’m going to talk about research. I love research! Of course, hands on research would be fantastic, especially for travel. But, the internet is a most useful tool.

Why research? Well, we want many people to read our books and it’s important that we have our facts straight or we won’t be credible authors. It’s also important to have plausibility in fiction, especially science fiction. Even though we make up stuff, it has to be believable to make it a good story, unless it’s fantasy. Fantasy is pretty much anything imaginable!

Here are some of the things I researched for Pop Travel…

Setting – the action takes place in several locations all over Georgia, starting in a small town, to downtown Atlanta, to a refurbished plantation. The plantations were a lot of fun to dig into – historic, majestic, mysterious! The characters also pop across the world to India and Australia. I had to research all these locations to make sure the readers felt like they were there and could picture the scenes, whether they had been there or not.

Sources – my research sources included many internet sites, and maps, like the Atlanta airport website, and my neighbor who happens to be from Mumbai, India.

Technology – I also had to research the science behind some of the futuristic gadgets I wanted my characters to have. Like pop travel teleportation itself. There’s a squeak of a chance it might work someday, versus the many studies that say it can’t, so possible is plausible. And the Quarknet may be close to reality to replace the internet as a faster and more efficient way to transmit data. There’s more, but I don’t want to bore you with the details!

Finally, one of the most fun items I researched was Geri’s clothes! She wears a killer purple gown to a party, then swaps it for a more comfortable outfit over in India. I did some more research for the next book for her go-to spywear with protective lining. Just so fun to imagine!

There are so many things that come up that require some digging. We have to put in the effort if we want our stories to be great. You all know what I mean!

Do you have any interesting research you’ve had to do? Or advice? I’d love to hear it!

And thanks again, Sydney, for giving me this opportunity to talk to your readers!

Now, here are some details for Pop Travel.
