The Guest Post

Hadley and Lily’s Top ‘Summer to Remember’ Must Haves

Hadley: Hey everyone. My best friend, Lily, and me are going to tell you our top must haves for this summer.

Lily: This girl is headed to college in the Fall and it’s our last summer together before “growing up”. I’ll start! My number one is boys.

Hadley: (eye roll)

Lily: What? Boys are important for a summer to remember. And now that we’re both single we can have a little fun with them.

Hadley: Are you done?

Lily: Fine. What’s your number one?

Hadley: (grins) My best friend.

Lily: Oh! And a job working with your best friend.

Hadley: Yes that too.

Lily: (pauses dramatically) And on a serious note…sunscreen.

Hadley: UV protection is important.

Lily: I was thinking more along the lines of awful tan lines.

Hadley: Okay…

Lily: Next is…parties. And oh! Older brothers who can get supplies for parties, if you know what I mean.

Hadley: Oh my God…

Lily: So we have boys, best friends, a job WITH a best friend, sunscreen, parties, brothers, what else?

Hadley: Camp!

Lily: That counts as a job with your best friend.

Hadley: Camp should be a category of its own—

Lily: Here we go…

Hadley: But without camp we wouldn’t have had the best summers of our lives. And we will be a part of making that happen for the kids.

Lily: Yeah. I’m still sticking with boys.

Hadley: You’re hopeless, but I do love you! Well that does it, everyone. Be sure to make this summer, a summer to remember. And comment below with your must haves I’d love to hear them!

About This Summer

Publisher: Carina UK

Genre: New Adult Contemporary

ISBN: 9781472096449

Description…

Before college, before responsibilities, Hadley Beauman and best friend Lily are determined to have a summer to remember. There will be all the usual dramas – ex-boyfriends who don’t seem to know what ‘ex’ means, pesky younger brothers with unrequited crushes, but what Hadley didn’t anticipate was the out-of-the-blue return of the seriously hot boy-next-door, Will Carson. The boy who broke her heart when he skipped town two years ago.

Will may have shot up a foot and filled out (oh yes), but inside he carries the weight of guilt – for leaving, for coming back… Now he’s just passing through to tie up loose ends but it’s clear the old chemistry still crackles between him and Hadley. Trouble is, it’s built on two years of lies…

This summer might just be the best time of their lives, but is Hadley ready for everything to change – again?

Sydney Reviews Love, Lex by Avery Aster

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

20567976Synopsis: This summer, I’d planned to celebrate my eighteenth birthday in Europe with my fellow Manhattanites—Taddy Brill, Blake Morgan, and Vive Farnworth—until I caught my boyfriend screwing my mother. According to the police report, this vomit-inducing incident happened around the same time I’d supposedly blown-up my mother’s penthouse. Like I’m walking around Soho with a stick of dynamite in my Louis Vuitton purse—not! Now, my besties and I are in jail.Officer Ford Gotti, the Harley-wheelin’ biker cop who arrested us, keeps sticking his perfectly-sculpted nose into my case. His inked body is jacked like a superhero, and he says I can trust him. He wants me to fess up. I won’t. Not again. Why should I? My friends and I had a previous stint in juvie that nearly destroyed us. I gotta protect them and keep my mouth shut. Right? —Lex Easton, women’s studies major, motorcycle enthusiast, and virgin. The Undergrad Years is a New Adult contemporary miniseries about first loves, independence, and everlasting friendships.

Reader warning: Contains mature content intended for readers 17 and up.

Review: Sometimes I read a book and enjoy it for its bookness and sometimes I read a book and wish it was opening in my local mega theater this Friday. Love, Lex is the latter. I loved it. As I read it, I keep reading faster and faster. It had a real Sin City feel to it. You know the movie by Quentin Tarantino, Frank Miller & Robert Rodriquez. Any one of them would be perfect in bring this book to the big screen.
The heat level started off the chart on page one and built from their. I love books about crazy mega rich young adult. These kids had been through it and their loyalty, while tested, touched me.
The sex scene at the end was a bit of a jolt and kind of jarring, but it had a satisfying ending.

A few of my favorite things

Tattoo References: Officer God – With python arms wider than my thighs, his body reminded me of The Hulk right before  his clothes would shred and he’d turn green. Hot. Smothered in ink he sports a tattoo sleeve up and down his right arm. So hot!

Movie References:  Pearl Harbor, Legally Blonde, Star Wars & Post Cards from the Edge

Favorite Line:  “Strategic. Yup, he’s convinced I strategically placed the tanks around the apartment then lit a match. Honestly, I’m not that smart.”

“My confusion nearly paralyzed me. Did my two friends lose their minds? We’d gone from hugging besties to face-slapping frienemies and now horny girls on the prowl. WTF.”

Tattoo Tuesday – Laura Jamez

SydTatTWO

I’ve got a good Tattoo Tuesday post for you today.

Laura Jamez, your five questions start now:

1.   How old were you when you got your first tattoo?
I’d always wanted a tattoo but due to how I was brought up, in that tattoos weren’t acceptable especially on women, it took me till I was 29. At that point I thought to hell with it, I want one and stuff everyone I’m going to get one. Obviously I was still a little bit of nervous about what people would think so got it on my lower back to keep it hidden lol

2.     How many tattoos do you have? If only one, do you want more?
I currently have three, two on my back one on my foot. I have a new one planned for my inner left wrist, a bat design I’m still working on.

3.     What inspired you to get your first tattoo or favorite tattoo?  Tell me your tattoo story.
My favourite tattoo is the one on my foot. It’s a quill drawing a small line. I got this when I decided I was happy writing short stories and wanted to have a permanent reminder that, despite not having much work published, I am a writer and I love it.

4.     Tattoos on a significant other, like or dislike? Explain why?
I’d love my other half to get a tattoo but so far he hasn’t. I love seeing them on men, especially the rugged dirty looking blokes – makes them seen even more dangerous – I know it’s such a stereotype but hey what can I say I’m shallow lol
5.     Do the characters in your books have tattoos? If so, pick a character and tell me his or her tattoo story? Why was this story incorporated in the book?
When I first read this my immediate response was no, none of the characters I have ever written has a tattoo but then I remembered a novel that I have shelved. The main character has a stamp on the back of his hand that allows uploading of data to his subconscious. The symbol is celtic in design and is created by an extremely painful process involving the “stabbing of a thousand needles”, everyone in the world has them to allow data transfer.
Thanks Laura for sharing your tattoo story. My favorite is the quill on your foot, too. Be sure to connect with Laura James:

#IWSG – My Release Day

InsecureWritersSupportGroup

Huge thank you to the awesome co-hosts for the June 4 posting of the IWSG C. Lee McKenzie, Tracy Jo, Melanie Schulz, and LG Keltner!  Special shout out to our captain, Mr. Alex J. Cavanaugh. Make sure you visit them and as many of the support group as you can.

I’m not sure if I’m actually looking for advice. I’ve heard it all. I feel the need to share. In hopes that others have had this particular issue.

The night before my release, I posted on a FB Group how I didn’t think I would need a  peep talk prior to my book release, but later that night, I couldn’t sleep and it seemed like I was seconds away from an anxiety attack.

What was I so scared of, well, no sales. That’s what scared me. What if not one person bought my book. Ridiculous, I know.

Well, the first day went better then expected, but now I’m depressed again.

Anyone else experience the Book Release Blues? What did you do to get over it?

I also wanted to thank everyone who supported me during the release of my debut novel, Another New Life. I need to remind myself it’s not every day a person get’s to realize a dream. I am so grateful.
