SQM – Wreck It-Ralph

Ralphnew002Sydney Quotes the Movies bringing you the animated video game epic, Wreck-It Ralph by Disney.

Honestly, I felt like my worst fear had come true. Went the light go out at the arcade, I knew the characters hung out in a parallel world behind the machines. Super Mario Brother cheated on the princess with Ms. Pacman, Q’Bert suffered from anxiety attacks about hopping off the side of his world and Centipede must have a standing appointment with a chiropractor to help with his flexibility issues.

It was a cute kids movie and if you got all the movie and real life references it was an entertaining adult movie, as well.

Such as the Wizard of Oz like soldiers chant reference “Oreo, Oreo” and “Diet Cola Hot Springs, Look out for falling Mentos”.

And you know I love made up movie words such as poor Vanellope suffering from “Pixlexia” and the cruel insult of being refereed to as a “glitch” and “Verp – like vomit and burp” and “retro, which means old but good”.

But, Vanellope has confidence, “I know I’m a racer. I can feel it in my code.”

I also liked the anti Hero, hero and his enthusiasm – Fix It Felix:

“Oh, that’s not blood force trauma, ma’am. That’s just the honey glow in my cheeks.”
I almost drowned in chocolate milk mix!”
“Look at that high definition! Your face… it’s amazing.”

And, of course, we can’t forget our Bad Guy – Ralph:

“It’s hard to love your job, when no one else seems to like you for doing it.”
I wonder how many licks it would take to get to your center?”
“I’m bad, and that’s good. I will never be good, and that’s not bad. There’s no one I’d rather be then me.”
I was GOING to get my medal and go until your little children of the candy corn made off with it!”
I’m already happy, I got the coolest job in the world! It may not be as fancy as being president, but I have a duty, a big duty!”

Some of my other favorite quotes:

“Dooms Day and Armageddon just had a baby and it is ugly.”
“I bet you really gonna watch where you step in a game called Hero’s duty[Vanellope Laughs] What’s you win a medal for wiping? I hope you washed your hands after you handled that medal.”
Flattery don’t charge these batteries, civilian.”

Heroes & Villains Blogfest SQM Version

HvsVblogfestI though about this one long and hard. I wanted to make sure I got this right. This was a hard decision, but I think I have narrowed it down to 4 each.  Sorry, it’s the best I can do.  Heroes & Villains are what make the story worth while.

Thank to all our host. Click on the badge to check out what other Heroes & Villains made the list.

Let’s start with the Villains:

Villain #4 – Loki from The Avengers
Villain #3 – Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – scared the hell out of me as an adult
Villain #2 – Darth Vader from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – scared the hell out of me as a kid
Villain #1 – The Joker – from The Dark Knight – brilliant performance by the late, great Heath Ledgerimages

“If you’re good at something, never do it for free.”

Now, the Heroes:

Hero #4 – Yoda from Star Wars New Hope – there are no Jedi’s w/out Yoda

Hero #3 – Bumble Bee from Transformers 3 – the radio voice track and a heart full of gold.

Hero #2 – Maximus Decimus Meridius from Gladiator

Hero #1 – Tony Stark/Iron Man (the original) and The Avengers

“Let’s do the head count here.  Your brother, the demigod; the super soldier, living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breathtaking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins and you, big fellow, you’ve manage to piss off every single one of them.”

What are your favorite Heroes & Villains?

SQM – Iron Man 3

Tony Stark is Iron Man and Iron Man is Tony Stark. That sums up the message behind Iron Man 3. I may be reaching here, but never has a character gone through such a transformation over three films as Mr. Tony Stark. The amazing thing about his transformation as a character is he’s likable at every stage.

This is what Tony Stark shows  you in Iron Man 3:

Tony Stark has heart:

“I had just created demons and didn’t even know it”

“Things are different now, I have to protect the one thing that I can’t live without. That’s you.”

“She was already perfect.”

Angry Tony Stark:

“You’re not a man. You’re nothing more than a maniac. I’m not afraid of you. No politics here: just good old fashioned revenge!”

Fight Scene One Liner Tony Stark:

“Hot wings you want to party?”

“Walked right into this one I’ve dates hotter chicks them you.”

“You like that,Westworld?”

“Walk away from that, you son of a bitch.”

Same old Tony Stark:

“Ladies follow the mullet.”

“It’s not superhero business.”

“It’s a big bunny relax about it.”

“I remember the night, not the morning.”

“You know, it’s moments like these when I realize how much of a superhero I am.”

“Dads leave. No need to be such a pussy about it.”

“I liked you in A Christmas Story.”

“Some people say progress is a bad thing. But try having a magnet in your chest keeping you alive.”

“That’s the thing about smart guys: we cover our asses!”

“Sweetheart, “a cheap trick and a cheesy one-liner” could be the name of my autobiography.”

“You are in a relationship with me, nothing is gonna be fine”

After New York Tony Stark:

“Ever since that big guy with the hammer fell out of the sky, subtlety’s kinda had its day.”

“I have a lot of apologies to make… Nothing’s been the same since New York. You experience things, and then they’re over. I can’t sleep, and when I do I have nightmares.”

Tony Stark: I’m sorry, did I disturb your selective napping?
Bruce Banner: I’m sorry, I’m not that kind of doctor. It’s not my department.
Tony Stark: Your training?
Bruce Banner: My temperament.

SQM – Silver Linings Playbook

tbn_14284b48d7c67458It appears this movie is either loved or hated. And, those who hate it do so because it hits so close to home.

I though it was great. Honest and messy and raw and unexpected, with great dialogue. Bradley Cooper is greatness. DeNiro as always is greatness. Jennifer Lawrence on the cusp of greatness.

Yeah, I liked the movie.

Quotes of Note

Tiffany (Oscar Winner Jennifer Lawrence):

“Can we get through one fucking conversation without you reminding me that my goddamn husband’s dead?”

“You’re not a standup guy today, Pat!”

“I opened up to you, and you judged me.”

“I was a slut. There will always be a part of me that is dirty and sloppy, but I like that just like all the other parts of myself.  I can forgive. Can you say the same for yourself, fucker?  Can you forgive?  Are you capable of that?”

“Yes, I’m Tommy’s crazy whore widow. Minus the whore think, for the most part.”

“I have a problem?” You say more inappropriate things than appropriate things.”

“I do this! Time after time after time. I do all this shit for other people and then I wake up and I’m empty. I have nothing.”

“You’re killing me!”

Pat (The Adorable Bradley Cooper):

“You have poor social skills. You have a problem.”

“The only way to beat me crazy was by doing something even crazier. Thank you. I love you. I knew it from the moment I saw you. I’m sorry it took me so long to catch up.”

“I’m not flirting with you.”

“I just see that you made an effort, and I’m gonna be better with my wife.  I’m working on that. I wanna acknowledge her beauty.  I never used to do that. I do now. Just practicing. How’d Tommy die?”

“I was trying to be romantic.”

“The world will break your heart ten ways to Sunday. That’s guaranteed. I can’t begin to explain that. Or the craziness inside myself and everyone else. But guess what? Sunday’s my favorite day again. I think of what everyone did for me, and I feel like a very lucky guy.”

SQM – The Hobbit

Hobbit-Movie-Poster-570x842The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was hyped from the moment the last LOTR movie finished filming.  It was inevitable.  Of course, I am happy Peter Jackson committed to this project.  He’s sees Middle Earth like no other.

The movie was beautiful. The scene filmed on New Zealand country side were epic and Jackson utilized the natural beauty so well in the movie.

It was comforting to see some cameo’s from LOTR such as Old Bilbo, Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond and the greatness that is Frodo.

I liked the movie more because of the franchise and some residual good vibes from the LOTR, but it was slow at times.  But, from the moment Gollum makes an appearance, until the end, the movie is amazing.

My favorite scene in the movie was the same as in the book; the riddle scene between Bilbo and Gollum.

A contest alert:  Guess the answers to the riddles? Leave the answers in the comments.  Whoever answers the most correct, wins a $10 Amazon gift card from me.

1.  What has roots as nobody sees,
Is taller than trees,
Up, up it goes,
And yet never grows?

2.  Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.

3.  Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.

4.  An eye in a blue face
Saw an eye in a green face.
“That eye is like to this eye”
Said the first eye,
“but in low place
Not in high place.”

5.  It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.

6.  A box without hinges, key, or lid,
yet golden treasure inside is hid.

7.  Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail never clinking.

8.  No-legs lay on one-leg,
Two-legs sat near on three-legs,
Four-legs got some.

9.  This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Come back on Sunday for the answers.  And, go see the movie and read the book.

I leave you with the desperate, sad, and pathetic words from Gollum, “Thief, thief, thief…! Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it forever!” – Poor Gollum
