What a cool line up!
Best Movie Remake – Total Recall
The original was good, but let’s face it, it was an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.
The remake stared Colin Farrell (love him) and Kate Beckinsale (love her) and included hot fight scenes between the two (love it).
The movie made me want to write science fiction. I wanted to build worlds and create technology and choreograph chase scenes through multi level, maze like hotels. The world created in this movie was inspiring.
Worst Movie Remake – Father of the Bride
Steve Martin is a good actor, but he could not fill the shoes of Mr. Spencer Tracy in this classic role.
And, the original had Elizabeth Taylor as the bride. I can’t even remember who played the bride in the remake.
Spencer Tracy is brilliant. He was nominated for an Oscar for best actor for this role and the movie and the screenplay were also nominated.
Have you seen the new Total Recall? Have you seen the old Father of the Bride? What do you think are some of the best and worst remakes?
I’ve seen both Father of the Bride films and have to agree with you…it was a terrible remake. I haven’t seen the new Total Recall, yet, but I’m not sure it can outmuscle Arnold’s version 🙂
The new Total Recall sticks really close to the original story, but Colin gives it a different feel and the worlds are really different. You should check it out.
I haven’t seen the Total Recall remake yet, but I liked Arnold’s version a lot. Funny but I picked a Steve Martin remake as well and I’m a big Steve Martin fan. Can’t remember much about Father of the Bride–I think I saw it…

Dare I admit that I really liked the original Total Recall and the Steve Martin version of Father of the Bride – in both cases I hadn’t seen the other version.
Visiting from the blogfest.
Rhonda from Laugh Quotes
Check them out. It gives the same story a different feel in both cases.
I’ve heard a lot of people say they didn’t like the new Total Recall, but I quite liked it as well.
The people I saw it with didn’t like it either. I just saw something great in it.
I haven’t seen the new Total Recall but I do want to see how they have remade the story.
I have only seen Steve Martin;s version which to me was great.
Yvonne.
I watched the Total Recall remake just for Kate, but I admit I like the original best. Cheesy 90’s Hollywood at its best.
Thanks for participating in our blogfest!
I haven’t seen the original Father of the Bride, I totally want to now! I wonder if the the same thing applies for Cheaper by the Dozen?
Was that a remake. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. I love old movies.
This blog fest has been fun to read around the blog-o-sphere. I don’t watch a lot of movies but I now have a list of do and don’ts when the mood strikes.
That’s the best thing about Alex’s blogfest, you to watch list grows.
Never watched the original, so I actually enjoyed the remake of Total Recall.

Since I thinks it the better version and the story is very similar, no need to watch the original in my book. Unless your interested in 80’s action hero movies.
Hmm, I haven’t seen the original or remake of Father of the Bride, but I’m so with you on Total Recall! I loved the Arnold version, but Colin Farell, he gave it a sense of humanity that I think Arnold lacked. Plus, we got to see some of the groovy props and the three-breasted woman at Comic-Con, so that was cool.
Haha. You stated it perfectly. Arnold is just an over the top action hero. Colin makes it an every man story.
I saw Total Recall and I liked very much. I also saw Father of the Bride, Steve Martin’s version. I kind of enjoyed it but that might be because I never saw the first version. Thanks for participating! 🙂
Check them out if you get a chance. This one was fun.
I really enjoyed the world-building in the TOTAL RECALL remake. And of course, Beckinsale.
Wasn’t it amazing.

I didn’t like the original Total Recall enough to watch the remake. But I’m with you on the Father of the Bride. Steve Martin is no Spencer Tracy. (Then again, who is?)
Well said LD.
Haven’t seen the remakes or originals for either of these. I think it’s really cool, though, how much Total Recall inspired you. Gotta love it when the muse strikes so strongly like that!
I haven’t seen the new Total Recall yet. But I didn’t know Father of the Bride was a remake. Steve Martin is hilarious.
Here I am not even realising that Father of the Bride was a remake! 😉
I actually prefer the original Total Recall. I wasn’t a fan of the remake, though I agree the world-building was super cool! Didn’t think Kate was that great in it.
Loved the remake of Total Recall and your reasons for loving it! Great post!
Thanks Tyrean.
