Let me get my gushing out of the way and say that I loved this movie. It was the great all American action movie. With the right amount of witty clever dialogue, action sequences, robots, aliens, superheros and realism all wrapped up in a nice pretty CGI fueled package.
It has been awhile since a movie has pulled me in like this one did and that it is my favorite way to watch a movie.
I also have to take a moment to extol the greatness of Tony Stark. I liked the first Ironman Movie. I loved the second Ironman Movie. I am now ready to declare that Tony Stark as played by Robert Downey, Jr. is one of my top 5 favorite movie characters of all time.
He creates a suit that makes him into a super hero. Out of the suit, he describes himself as “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.” Brilliant!
The movie was amazing, the people where oh so pretty, but the diaglogue. The dialogue made the movie.
First, let Tony Stark tell you who the Avengers are:
“Let’s do the head count here. Your brother, the demigod; the super soldier, living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breathtaking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins and you, big fellow, you’ve manage to piss off every single one of them.”
Some of the funniest lines he delivered was in putting down his fellow Avengers while reference other movies.
[to Thor] “No hard feelings Point Break, you’ve got a mean swing.”
(Thor does kind of looks like Patrick Swayze in the surfer bank robber movie)[to Hawkeye] “Right. Better clench up, Legolas.”
(Referencing the gorgeous arrow slinging elf played by Orlando Bloom from the Lord of the Rings movies.)Typically, I pin point single lines, but some much of what made this movie great is the interaction between the larger then life characters.
Like this conversation between Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark:
Steve Rogers: “Stark, we need a plan of attack!”
Tony Stark: “I have a plan. Attack!”
Or between Natasha Ramanoff a.k.a Black Widow (Scarlett Johansen) and Thor (Chris Heimsworth):
Thor: “He’s my brother.”
Natasha Ramanoff: “He killed 80 people in 2 days.”
Thor: “He’s adopted.”
And, how about this exchange between Steve Rogers and Clint Barton a.k.a Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner):
Steve Rogers: “You think you can hold them off?”
Clint Barton: “Captain, it would be my genuine pleasure.”
But, there was some really great one liners as well:
“You people are so petty, and tiny.” Thor
[to Loki] “Your gonna loose. It’s in your nature.” Agent Coulsen
“You were made to be ruled.” Loki
“Where not a team. Where a time-bomb.” Bruce Banner a.k.a The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo)
“Love is for children. I owe him a debt.” Black Widow
[to Tony Stark] “Your not the man to make the sacrifice
play.” Captain America
We must recognize that this little band of heros was put together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). “There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we need them, they could fight the battles that we never could.”
Not everyone was in favor of this idea, Nick Fury is going to stand up for what he believes in.
Delivered in true Samuel L. Jackson fashion, “I recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it.”
If you have seen it, tell me what you think? If you haven’t seen it, go see it, and tell me what you think? Who was your favorite Avenger? What are some of your favorite movie lines?
I would like to recognize Marvel.com for the photos and IMDb for helpings me remember some of these great quotes. I typically will type the quotes in my iPhone as I watch a movie, but I was way to end into this movie to take my eyes off the screen.
This was a fun movie. I loved many of the quotes too!! Especially Tony Stark’s lines. And loved, “He’s adopted.”
I love that line, too. And, Tony Stark is just greatness.
That’s funny, I just finished reading Smurfin’ the Web’s movie review on The Avengers and while he liked it, he thought that there were just one too many superheroes in it. I was supposed to go see The Avengers like a week or two ago but missed it. Maybe I’ll check it out while it’s still in theaters. Anyway, I like the Tony Stark quote the most of all you listed…but hey, I also love me some Robert Downey Jr. so I guess that goes without saying, lol.
Based on all of the excitement surrounding The Avengers and the fact that it’s killing at the box office, I anticipate it being a good action flick, so I have no doubts that it will serve it’s purpose whether I like it or not. I guess, I’m not expecting much since I’m no huge comic fan. I’d be looking forward to the action sequences and the quality of the acting performances more than anything else 🙂

Nicole. There was a lot of superheros, but they all had their purpose. I am not a huge comic book fan either, but I like this story (band of people from all walks of life, who are all a little weird, coming together for a common cause to save humanity) and the writing is just so clever and everyone has great delivery. The action and blown up stuff is just bonus. Let me know what you think after you see it.
I am going to see this over the weekend. I am a huge fan of Downey Jr. Thanks for sharing these !
If you like Robert Downey, Jr. you are going to love it. Enjoy!

Great quotes/convo’s. I have two more to add:
Tony Stark: Dr. Banner, your work is unparalleled. And I’m a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster.
Bruce Banner: Thanks.
Loki: Kneel before me. I said… KNEEL! Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It’s the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.
Old Guy: Not to men like you.
Loki: There are no men like me.
Old Guy: There are always men like you.
I could have done a post just on the Tony Stark quotes. He was so good. I did miss the Loki quote. That was good, too. I just loved the movie. Trying to go see it again this weekend.
My favorite part:
Loki: Enough! All of you are beneath me. I am a god, you dull creature and I shall not be bullied…
The Hulk: [Hulk flattens Loki with repeated smashes into the floor] Puny god.
I love Hulk! Tony Stark is cool too. lol
The writers and actors simply nailed it with this movie.
Absolutely.
Hi, a movie of this caliber throws itself 100 years into tommorow still in the history book’s! It is quite a brilliant idea to match up that much raw creativity! Everyone of those characters are so entrancing they’ve carried their own blockbuster movies! The combined fanbase alone is astounding! Your review was eloquent, friendly, and from a place of truth! That always leads to better insights! Thank you for follow! Your writing style is great! Keep writing!
Your comment made my week. I know it only Monday, but I will be smiling all week. I love movies, but I am inspired by great movies and Avenger set the bar higher for me. Thanks so much for stopping back.
Ok, so the movie came out months ago and I’m a little late to the party. In my defense, I just found your freaking awesome blog!
Having said that, while Tony Stark was very cool and got most of the best one liners, I felt Hulk stole the show. And it only took two scenes for him to do it! The first one was referenced above (and I think everyone’s favorite)…when he used Loki the way Bam Bam from the Flintstones used a club. The other one was the part when the fighting was over and everyone comes together. He and Thor are standing side by side, then Pow! Fist out to the side and Thor is across the room. It reminded me of friends who brawl for fun, and reminded me that this truce is still an uneasy one and in it’s early stages.
Stark had the cool lines, The Cap’n was the leader in battle, Thor was my personal preference for man candy, but Hulk…he definitely stole the show.
Hey Kitt. No worries about being late to the party. It is a classic movie. I loved it as I am sure you can see from my post. And, today I saw some news on alternative beginnings and ending on the Blue Ray which will be coming out soon. I can’t wait. The Hulk doing his Bam Bam impression was too funny. I agree. Stark is my preference, though. But, the entire ensemble was greatness.
Thanks for following my blog. I appreciate it.
That’s the beauty of a movie like this. There’s a character for everyone! Stark definitely seemed to be the universal favorite. Personally, I can’t wait till the next movie launches. I’m sure you caught the teaser for it at the end of the credits. I think I read somewhere that Joss Whedon will be writing and directing the second one. Love him!
LOVED this movie! My favorites are, as you said, Tony Stark, he just has so much background to him! My other favorite is Clint Barton. He’s freaking awesome and way hot. 🙂 My favorite quote is a two line dialogue between Natasha (Black Widow) and Clint (Hawk-eye)
Natasha: This is like Budapest all over again!
Clint: You and I remember Budapest very differently…
HI Dezzie, I love that I still get hits and comments on this post every day. It is my favorite post and my favorite movie with some of my favorite lines. I am happy you enjoyed it, too. You are right, Clint Barton is hot. haha.
I love tony Stark!!!!!!!!
