D – Dauphin, Author of The Fight Series

DI am a huge fan of Mallory Dauphin and her Fight Series. Sexy, hot characters with some major cool ink.

FIGHT by Mallory Dauphin
Eddie and Red’s story
The FIGHT series follows Eddie and Red from first glance to HEA. Both characters have tattoos covering the majority of their body. Eddie’s Tattoos are to cover scars inflicted on him during his childhood years. Red’s tattoos are more of a way to cover emotional scars from a traumatic event a few years prior to the start of the book. Throughout the book each character learns to live and love again, with each other.

C – Jay Crownover Books

COne of my favorite tattoo themed books are Jay Crownover’s Marked Men Series.

I read the first book, Rule and couldn’t put it down. It was an emotional novel. I felt like the novel reached into my heart and squeezed my chest until I couldn’t take it anymore, but I had to keep on reading. The characters were complex and raw and not stereotypical and I love that about a story.

I also loved the description of some of the ink in her stories:

The piece was a very intricate, very colorful Day of the Dead– inspired grim reaper. The face on the woman was beautiful and tragic and she held on to an exact replica of the heart I had initially drawn on Shaw’s palm all those months ago. Shaw had insisted on two things in the design— she wanted the sacred heart represented and she wanted it to resemble the grim reaper on my side.

B – Books

BRomance novels with tattoo themes are popular these days. I love them. Here are my top five tattoo themed books.

  1. Tattoo Thief by Heidi Joy Tretheway – the male MC has an Ambigram tattoo.
  2. First Ink by Laura Wright – hot sex scene in a tattoo shop.
  3. Hard as it Gets by Laura Kaye – military guy turned tattoo artist.
  4. Rule by Jay Crownover – emotionally charged book.
  5. Three, Two, One by JA Huss – love the symbolic ink on this cover and it a story about best friends who have matching tatts. I love that.

These stories run the gambit from rock stars and tattoo artists, to unique tattoos that steer the character’s lives. I have a tattoo series in me as well.

A – The Artist

mmbWelcome to the 2015 A to Z Blog Challenge. Since this is my 4th challenge, I received special status. Please, feel free to call me Special Agent, Sydney (Thanks Nicole). It’s not weird, that I printed this out and carry it with me at all times. You never know when you need to show your credentials.

The A to Z Blog Challenge is the brainchild of Arlee Bird, at Tossing it Out. We post every day in April except Sundays (we get those off for good behavior.) And since there are 26 days, that matches the 26 letters of the alphabet.

The A to Z Challenge is a great way to get into the blogging habit and make new friends.

My theme:  Books & Tattoos

AA is for the Artist. The tattoo artist is the most important person in the tattoo process. Pick your artist carefully. I have been fortunate to get inked by some amazing artist who understood my ideas and made them better and tattooable (I make up tattoo words all the time. Deal with it.).

I’ve been tattooed by Shane (Greenich Village, New York), Jason (Dallas, Texas), Gabe Shum (Hong Kong), Coco (Shenzhen, China), Vincent (Hong Kong), Manny (Dallas, Texas) & Michael (Brooklyn, New York).

Gabe Shum is an amazing artist in Hong Kong. He is responsible for two of my tattoos. He is the first artist who drew my tattoos freehand directly on my skin. celeb_david-beckham_350x500He created my favorite tattoo – Chinese Bull. CJ (yes, I name my tattoos) is holding three picked of bamboo, which represent happiness, long life and wealth. This tattoo was the catalyst for me pursuing my dream of becoming a writer.

Gabe has also tattooed David Beckham & NBA player Carmelo Anthony.

(Gabe did those Chinese characters. It means ‘Death and life have pre-determined appointments; riches and honor are from heaven.’

Pretty cool, huh!

I’ll share more of my ink over the month and share stories from other inked up authors. I will also introduce you to some of my favorite writer inspired tattoos and inked themed novels.

Do you have a tattoo? How important was your tattoo artist to the process?
