1990 – Favorite Movie – Goodfellas – Best Gangster Movie Ever
1991 – Favorite Sitcom – Seinfeld – although it debuted in 1990, I didn’t start watching it until season 2.
1992 – Favorite Album and Album Title – 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of . . . by Arrested Development – Song: Tennessee, Mr. Wendal, People Everyday. Favorite Lyric: “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, teach him how to fish and he’ll eat forever.”
1993 – Favorite Reality Show – The Real World Los Angeles – MTV was the only channel that was doing reality shows and The Real World was the original. This season featured Tami, David, Beth, Jon, Aaron, Dominic, Irene, Glenn, Beth. It was more then 7 because David got kicked off by his roommates for inappropriate behavior and Irene got married. This show has come a long way.
1994 – Favorite TV Drama – My So Called Life – The whole series the cast would refer to other characters by their full name: Angela Chase, Rayanne Graff, Jordan Catalano, Rickie Vasquez, Brian Krakow (I did that from memory.) It was a great show despite being cancelled after the first season.
1995 – Favorite Movie Character Name – Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects
1996 – Favorite Concert – The Fugees – Tallahassee, Florida
1997 – Favorite year for Movies – Titanic, Good Will Hunting, As Good as it Gets, Starship Troopers, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Devils Advocate, Boogie Nights, G.I. Jane, L.A. Confidential, Donnie Brasco (“For get about it”), Deconstructing Harry, Amistad, Face/Off, Contact, Affliction, Eve’s Bayou, Gattaca – Now, I am sure you could do this with any year, but truly some great movies came out this year along with a few of my all time favorite; Titanic, Good Will Hunting and Face/Off.
1998 – My favorite Book – Bag of Bones by Stephen King – one of his best.
1999 – Favorite Acting pair – Edward Norton and Brad Pitt in Fight Club
What are your favorites from the 90’s?
Goodfellas is such a great movie. And Fight CLub as well. Great choices!
Thanks Dani. You can’t beat gangsters and guys who beat each other up.
Goodfellas almost made my list as well. Had to bump it in favor of getting at least _one_ book on my list, though. Certainly the best film of that year…and most years.
Hi Philip, I know what you mean about including a book. I did read in the nineties. haha.
Nice work. I really enjoyed your list.
Thanks Dave. This was so much fun. I have visited quite a few. Thanks for being such a great host.
Wow. 1997 WAS a good year in movies. Funny that I was hardly watching any–I’ve seen those later. At the time I had a 2-year old… not very conducive.
Movies and 2 year olds sometime don’t mix. haha.
Good fellas was a classic! Wifey and I still love it. And I haven’t read Bag of Bones. I’ll add it to my TBR list.
Bag of Bones is a can’t miss. You will enjoy it.
fight club rocked! Glad to find a fellow Starship Troopers Fan. Hope you sign up for the Scare Me! Blogfest.
Hi Budd, I think Starship Troopers doesn’t get the love it deserves. I mean, a whole movie presented as a recruitment film. Brilliant. Those huge bugs were terrifying.
I didn’t watch My So-Called Life, but I’ve heard good things about it.
Eliza, If you get a chance to see it, do. It has great themes and great acting.
Great sigh for “My So Called Life” specifically and a damn good list in general.
Thanks so much Jules.
Seinfeld, yes! And I still miss My So Called Life. I read Bag of Bones for the first time a few months ago – loved it.
My So Called Life, was cancelled way to soon. It was a great show.
You’ve got some items on here that practically defined the decade. Can you get more Ninties-iconic than Seinfeld? I think not.
Oh, I agree 100%. Loved Seinfeld. I actually have a photo of my standing in front of Monks.
Oh, nostalgia. . . My favorite show of the 90s~Dinosaurs! “I’m the baby, gotta love me!.”
You and my cousin need to have a play date, she loved that show.
haha, I’m in!
The Usual Suspects is one of the best films ever!
Isn’t it great. When he is walking down the street at the end, it is the best piece of filming every.
You’re right, My So-Called Life referred to characters by full name all the time! My high school friend and i still joke about OhmygodJordanCatalano! haha. I watched The Real World all through the 90s. I think the first season in Vegas really changed it to the trashier version it is today. i caught a season recently that was decent, I forget which city. Then all the reviews I read online was it was the worst most boring season ever. Go figure! I’ve pretty much bowed out of reality TV unless it involves talent: The Voice, Project Runway, etc.
I have transition to competition reality shows but even those are getting a little repetitive. Even Amazing Race is going to run out of challenges.
Hey, have a dollar. In fact no, brother man, here have 2.. Mr Wendal, love this song.
My So Called Life – oh, Jordan Catelano. He was one of my first TV crushes.
I’ve read a lot of King, but I somehow missed Bag of Bones.
I haven’t seen all the movies you listed, but the ones I recognize were awesome. 1997 was a good year for film.
I didn’t realize there were so many good movies in 1997 until I was research for this post. It was a good year.
