Author Bio:

“As I’m sure you’ve figured out,” Daniel says, “you’re here for a competition. You’ve probably also predicted some of the nature of this contest, though I assure you, you could not have predicted it all. Some of you have, quite separately, decided to mingle with these three fine young men here and with each other. That is, of course, your business. Not something we’ve asked or requested in any way.”

Some of the girls look at each other, and even though I don’t want to, I find my eyes turning toward Erin’s. She still won’t look at me. It’s the oddest thing. She and Jessica don’t strike me like the others do, though it’s possible that’s only because the three of us are the newest. But I’d swear, we seem like three peas in a pod. Girls who aren’t right for this scene, even if Erin proved me wrong. Maybe that’s why she’s looking away — because she thinks I’m judging her. It’s also possible, given what happened and the way she looked at me back in my room, that she’s interested in me the way she was in Tony.

Still, something is wrong here. Something I’m missing.

Daniel has paused for a few meaningful seconds. I know what he’s doing —reminding them all that just because some billionaire invited them over and they decided to start screwing around with each other, there was and won’t be any coercion. I’d guess it’s also drawing the first of many lines between the contestants: those who were proactive enough to act early, those who abstained, and those who got their rocks off because they were horny — all contest considerations aside.

My mind flashes back to the mind games Daniel played with me when we met. Games at the website on the card included with my invitation. The survey. The interview. Little things, like Daniel tricking me into admissions I didn’t want to make.

“If your guesses about this competition in any way make you uncomfortable,” Daniel continues, “I’ll ask you to let us know now. I’ll have one of our pilots fly you back the second you’re ready to go, and we will pay you five thousand dollars for leaving.”

He looks around the room. His eyes stop on me for a fraction of a second too long, and a few more heads turn before he moves on.

Five thousand isn’t enough.

Come hell or high water, I’ll stay until morning.

“By staying past the end of this sentence,” Daniel says, “you are waiving your right to any action against anyone here barring overt criminal behavior, as stipulated in the contract you signed earlier.”

My brow furrows. Contract? I didn’t sign any contract.

He pauses again.

“Perfect,” Daniel says when no one objects.

He turns to Trevor, who again stands. The two men nod mutual thanks, and Daniel sits in his chair beside the throne.

“I guess I’ll take it from here,” Trevor says, smiling down at Daniel, “since I’m the one looking for a bride.”

After I’ve thrown off my dress and have released the straps of my bra, he notices. “What are you doing?”

“Undressing,” I answer as I step out of my panties.

His eyes take in my body like a hungry wolf desperate for some relief.

He’s visibly affected, swallowing, licking his lips, muscles still thrumming with pent-up rage.

I want to help him, console him, make him feel good again, so I step into the shower with him.

“Why?” he asks, looking down at me with those lust-filled eyes.

“Because my Master needs me.”

He makes a face. “I don’t need you. I don’t want to need you. And I sure as hell don’t want you to think that your Master needs you.”

“Then it’s because I want you,” I say.

The water splashes his back as he traps me within his arms. “I killed for you. I murdered a man. Blood is on my hands. You should despise me. Be disgusted by me.”

“I’m not,” I say softly.

“And you want to help me?”

“I want you to feel good,” I say. “And I’ll do anything to make it happen, Master.”

I wrap my arms around his neck and push myself against him, rubbing my breasts against his chest. His growing dick pushes against my belly.

His brows draw together. “Stop.”

“Stop what?” I ask, pressing a kiss to the side of his lips.

He groans with desire, and his hand grips my shoulder. “I don’t deserve you,” he says. “Not after … what I did.”

“Master. You told me I should speak my mind and that my feelings are okay. So I will tell you right now my feelings for you have only grown. You are not a monster. You’re a kind man … let me be kind to you as well. Let me thank you for what you did.”

I press another kiss to the other side of his lips, and soon, they find their way to his mouth. We draw toward each other like an unstoppable force pulls us in. Our kisses hot, furious, ignited by passion and the heat of drops clattering down on us. His body tensed against me as his arms wrap around my body to pull me to him.

As our lips unlatch, I catch a drop of blood running down his cheek. It’s not his, but it doesn’t scare me. I wipe it off and show it to him, and he looks concerned.

“Why aren’t you scared?” he asks.

“Because I choose not to be,” I answer. “And I also choose to thank you for it.”

I leave a peck on his chest, scattering kisses wherever I can. A deep, rumbling groan leaves his mouth, setting my senses on fire. I love that sound of primal need rushing to the surface. And even though he refuses to do something about it, I will do it for him because that’s what good girls do.

EXCERPT:

Although it feels like time has completely stopped it most definitely has not. I am completely oblivious to how long Ethan and I have been standing outside my hotel room when we are startled apart by the sound of a very pissed off, deep, familiar voice.

“What the fuck is going on, Lexi?” Devin’s heated voice booms through the open hallway making me cringe and my body turn to stone at the sound. I’m still partially wrapped up in Ethan’s arms but when I finally detangle myself completely out of his hold, I step to the side of him so I can see Devin. I get a pretty good view of him too since he’s standing only a few feet behind Ethan with hate evident in his normally kind eyes. I know shock is all over my face as I stare at Devin as if he’s just a figment of my imagination. Ethan hasn’t moved a muscle. His back is to his enemy yet he chooses to stay facing me. It takes another few seconds before I finally take notice to what Devin is wearing. He has on running shorts and running shoes. His body is glistening with sweat and his face is red as if he was actually outside running in the Miami heat.

What the hell? My emotions are all over the place. Confused, scared, hurt, happy. I swear on my parent’s urns that Devin was just in bed with the twins. How is he standing here like he was actually out for a run and why can’t I find my damned voice to ask that very question? Suddenly I hear the twins’ door to their room open. I turn my attention behind me just as a random guy, who looks like he could be Devin’s fraternal twin brother or doppelganger, exits the twins’ room. My mind automatically fishes for the memory of my conversation with Jesse. Once I replay what he had said privately plus all of the banter with his buddies, I can see how a drunken person could mistake Mr. Random for Devin. The twins’ guest is wearing gray boardshorts and flips flops and steps out carrying his black T-shirt in his hand. He stops when he sees the three of us standing here. I’m sure we’re quite the sight to see. Me, with red watery eyes and airplane stale clothes, Ethan who has not moved but his irritation is quite evident, and Devin who looks as if he is ready to kill Ethan. The stranger who appears to be very much hung over but oozes sexual satisfaction gives us a half smile, says “Hey” to Devin, and inches past the soon-to-be war zone towards the elevator. It’s usually females you see doing the walk of shame but this morning it’s this wonderful guy, this wonderful guy who isn’t Devin. Shit. Devin.

“Answer me, Alexa.” Devin’s voice is seething and it makes me snap my head back around to face him. I glance briefly at Ethan and I see his eyes are screwed shut, jaw tense, the vein in his neck is pulsing, and his fists are clenched at his sides. Well shit. I can’t explain this because I don’t fully understand it all myself. I look back to Devin who is staring at me with so much anger and hurt that it takes my breath away.

Devin takes two steps closer and Ethan’s eyes snap open. Before either one can do anything I step between both of them. I’ve been in this position once before and just like the last time I have no idea what I could or would do if these two decided to throw down. I take another step towards Devin. He just stares down at me waiting for his answer.

My voice is quiet when I finally speak to him. “Devin, I can explain part of this but I can’t explain Ethan being here because I don’t have that answer-yet.”

“Do you think I’m fucking stupid, Lexi?” There is so much pain evident in his voice that my tears start to spill again.

“No, Devin. I don’t think you’re stupid. Can we please go into our room and talk privately?” I know I sound pathetic but that’s probably because I am. I just want to be alone with Devin and figure out this craziness.

Just when I think Devin is going to concede and go into our room with me I feel one of Ethan’s hands settle on my hip and that one tiny gesture sends Devin flying over the proverbial edge. Everything happens so fast that all I feel is my body being shoved out of the way like I’m a ragdoll. I trip over my bags and my head slams against a solid surface and everything goes black.
